They say timing is everything and it certainly was for Canada,
After the American revolution, Britian did not want to reapeat the same mistake twice. In addition, Britian's resources were focused in other world occurances. Britian really pereceived that there wasn't much here in Canada that was worth while, so when we proposed to them a "Dominion" format of independance, they were receptive. A Dominion still retained links to Britian, but got them off the hook financially which was very attractive.
