Canadian Law/Can I install security cameras in common areas?

Question
I've been searching all over the net and law forums but nobody could really help me out giving me really ambiguous answers. (Some says I am allowed other says it is against the law)

There are a couple of rooms for rent in my house. Only the 'room' is for rent and not the whole house. People renting the rooms do not know each other. All the rooms share a common area such as the the living room and kitchen. Since I am the landlord/owner of the house. Am I allowed to setup security surveillance video cameras in the common areas since it is a public area? And if I do will I need to put signs up or what do I have to do to abide by the law to have them installed?

Answer
In a residence it gets tricky..
It can only be in areas that are common and not in any way directed into washroom areas that people changein.
You should post signs and have all tenant sign a release, as well you may want to consult with a lawyer
