Question I have 2000 shares each of Whitegate Mining Company Limited and Kateri Mining Company Limited from the early 1960's. Both were issued by Premier Trust Company Toronto. Can you tell me more about them, and if they have any substantial value? Thanks.
Answer Julian, I have no information on Whitegate, but for Kateri, I do see that twice in the early 1960's it made the US Securities and Exchange Commission's Canadian Restricted List. That was an SEC list for companies illegally selling their stock into the US to United States citizens without having an SEC registration. Good, honest companies do not promote their shares in the US without having legal and proper registration, so that suggests the company was not exactly an upstanding corporate citizen.
Usually you start investigations of this sort with the transfer agent, but Premier is long defunct. You could try the Province of Incorporation for each and see what information they have, but considering the age any contact information would likely be long gone. Therefore, I suggest you take the certificates to a broker and ask them to perform a more detailed search for you and see what they are able to find.
