Question 1)I too have discovered a shares certificate for macfie dated june 27, 1989. Have you ever gotten any updated information on this company since your reply to the query in 2006.
2) I also have some shares in Kotcho Gross Royalty Trust in Calgary. How would I find out the price from any recent transactions?
Answer For Macfie, they were cease traded on both British Columbia and Ontario in 1986, and delisted by the VSE in 1988. Since the cease trade orders remain in effect, there is no market for the stock and no current value. However, it is odd that your certificate is dated 3 years after the cease-trade orders first went into effect and 15 months after the exchange booted them.
The Kotcho is a weird one. I find no record of that, but I did see a reference to Kotcho Lake Gross Royalty Trust. I suggest you try and track down the transfer agent listed on the certificate and find out from them exactly what it is that you have there. Or, take a certificate to a broker and see what they can find. It is possible the certificate is in a non-trading company, and there might be value outside of a current bid/offer.
