Question
I have a certificate of 200 shares of Capitol Petroleums Limited (no personal liability) registered with Prudential Trust Company Limited, Toronto. Any ideas if and who the new companies name would be. I'm not finding anything under the current name Capitol Petro.... etc. Guessing purchase was in the early 1930's to 1950's??  Any leads are appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Unfortunately, I have no hard data about the company, as the dates you gave are older than most of the information I have.

Usually the best way to track old stocks is through the transfer agent. Prudential Trust is long gone, but TD might have some of the old trust assets, although I have no idea if they include 50+ year old registration books. You could also try the Province of Incorporation, but considering the age of the shares, I doubt they will be too much help. I think your best bet would be to take the certificate to a broker and ask them to perform a more detailed search for you.
