Question
I have a share certificate for 100 shares in Precambrian Shield Resources Limited dated July,1976. This company was incorporated in British Columbia. Trust Agent was Guaranty Trust Company Of Canada. The last information I can find is from 1984. Was Precambrian taken over by another company or did it just go out of business?

Answer
Grant, Precambrian was acquired in 1993 for $3.25 per share cash. The agent handling the transaction was the R-M Trust Company in Toronto. I believe R-M Trust Company is now part of CIBC Mellon, which is on the web at www.cibcmellon.com. You can contact them and see if they have any information for you. However, my guess is that they may have turned the cash over to the government in safekeeping for you, in which case you will have to search online or contact every State or Province you have lived in since you bought the stock in 1976. But, I would start with the Agent and see what they can tell you.
