Canadian Stocks/The Mineral Exploration Company Limited - Guaranty Trust Company of Canada
Expert: Steven Taylor - 10/19/2009
QuestionDear Mr. Taylor:
I have a stock certificate, "NO. TM ####", for 200 shares from The Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited dated "JUL 5 - 1960". It is green in color with black and red print. I also have what looks like a transfer slip from the Guaranty Trust Company of Canada, with the same certificate number and security on it.
I have done a little preliminary research on the certificate, but have only been able to come up with a mention of the company in a 1960s book on Canadian Mining, and numerous references to a company by the same name which is operating in India.
Could you please tell me if this corporation changed names or was absorbed by another company and / or if this stock is worth anything? Also, out of curiosity, do you know what kind of mineral exploration this company did (old, gold, etc.)?
I appreciate your hard work and the numerous entries regarding Canadian stocks. This has been helpful in at least understanding that stocks like this are common and that some are still worth something. Thank you for your time and consideration.
AnswerThis is a bit of a long story. If my information is correct, it appears the company had its charter revoked sometime in the 1970's, but it was later revived and changed its name to Temex Resources Ltd. in 1983. Later, the Company merged into an active shell and became Temex Resources Corp. Temex is still around - it trades for about 18 cents per share on the TSX Venture.
The above information may or may not be correct - only the transfer agent can confirm if your shares have any value. The current agent for Temex is Equity Transfer (www.equitytransfer.com). Let them know what you have and see what they can determine.
