Canadian Stocks/Old Canadian Stocks
Expert: Steven Taylor - 10/16/2009
QuestionQUESTION: From an old bank loan I was returned several share certificates of old Canadian stocks and I have not been able to find out anything about these companies - Primer Group Minerals Ltd., Highland Mercury Mines, Sicintine Mines Ltd., and Cardianl Compound Fund. If you have any information on any of these companies it would be greatly appreciated.
ANSWER: From the information I have available:
Primer Group did a 1 for 5 reverse split and became Lada Development. Lada was struck from the corporate register, which means no value for common shareholders.
Highland Mercury went through several name changes and acquisitions. It did a 1 for 5 reverse split to Highland Crow, then a series of name changes to Quest Oil and Gas. Quest was acquired by Enermark Income Trust for 0.347 of an Enermark Unit per share of Quest. Enermark later merged into Enerplus Income Trust on the basis of 0.173 of an Enerplus unit per unit of Enermark. Enerplus trades on the TSX and the NYSE for about $24.84 per share. You need to contact Enermark's transfer agent, Computershare (www.computershare.com) to get your old shares reorganized.
Sicintine did a 1 for 5 reverse split and became Mi-Lo Health and Beauty. Mi-Lo was acquired in 1980 by Conventional General Investment Corporation of Ohio for 12% 15 year bonds of EFW Corporation valued at $1.75 per Mi-Lo share. I don't know if anything ever came of the bonds, so I suggest you consult with a broker and see what they can find out for you. If they are able to determine there is some remaining value, they can also help you search for it and file the required paperwork.
Cardiani Compound Fund seems like a mutual fund, and I have no information on those. I suggest you also consult a broker about that one.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your information. However, I made a spelling mistake and it is Cardinal Compound Fund - do you have any information on this fund?
AnswerFrom the information on the internet, it does appear to have been a mutual fund. It appears to have merged with Pacific Income Fund in 1975. However, I have no information on funds, so I do suggest you contact a broker who should have more fund information available.
