Question
Hi
I have just come across stock certificates from two companies and would like to get an idea of their value. The first is United New Fortune Mines Ltd based in Ontario and the second is Port Arthur Iron Ore Corporation.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
Paul Yaxley

Answer
Paul, I have no information on Port Arthur Iron Ore, but from the information I have available, it appears United New Fortune dissolved in 1980, and there was no value for shareholders.

For the Port Arthur, if there is a transfer agent listed on the certificate, you should contact them first, as they will know if the certificate is valid and has any current value. If that does not work, you could also try the Province of Incorporation and inquire about any information they may have available. You could also take the certificate to a broker and ask them to perform a more detailed search for you.
