Canadian Stocks/Family Stocks

Question
I recently have learned that a family member 3-4 generations back was a gold prospector in Northern Ontario with many claims.

I am trying to learn/obtain where I can research gold stocks or trusts that might have been left to the family.

I appreciate any help on this information.

Answer
Mark, unfortunately there is no central database of what a person may own. The best I can suggest is that you search the lost property databases by each state or province in which your family member might have lived or worked. Any shares is his name that were not part of the estate might still be there. You can find many of the them online at http://www.unclaimed.org/
