Canadian Stocks/Old Stock Certificates
Expert: Steven Taylor - 4/22/2009
QuestionQUESTION: My mother just found some old stock certificates for Sasko-Wainwright Oil & Gas Limited issued in 1928 and she wanted to know if they are still good I believe that Gentry Resources Ltd took over Sasko do you have any information on how we might check to see if these are still valid.
Also she has one for Big Jim Gold Mines LTD issued in 1950 do you have any info on this one.
And Salmita Consolidated Mines Limited stock certificates from 1951 they have Doherty Roadhouse & Co on the back of them and looks like they might have been purchased through McMahon and Burns Limited. Any information as to if these are still good or where I could check it out would be great. Thanks in advance for your help. Lin
ANSWER: Lin, from the information I have available, this is what I found.
The Sakso-Wainwright became Sasko Oil Limited, which changed its name in 1990 to Gentry Resources after a 1 for 5 reverse stock split. Gentry was acquired by Crew Energy in 2008 for 0.22 common shares of Crew for each share of Gentry. Crew trades on the TSX for about $5.65 per share. You need to contact Crew's Transfer Agent, Valiant Trust, which you can find at www.valianttrust.com.
Big Jim had its charter cancelled, which suggests no value for shareholders. Same for Salmita, which was acquired by Mack Lake Mining, which was later dissolved and I don't believe there was any value for common shareholders.

QUESTION: One other Item she also had a certificate with Yorkshire Trust Company that was issued in 1979 do you have any info on them.
By the way what you do is great I'm sure you have helped alot of people out
Thanks
AnswerLin, do you have any additional information regarding the Yorkshire certificate? Yorkshire merged with several other trust companies and became Central Guarantee Trust, but Central is long gone. I believe TD Trust may have many of Central's assets, so you could try contacting them.
