Question
I have a friend that ran across some old stock certificates:  Abacon Developments Limited from 1963; Maybrun Mines Limited from 1955 or 1965 (hard to read); and Nickel Rim Mines Limited from 1958.  Are these companies still around in any form?  How we find the values of these stocks?  Thanks.

Answer
Craig, from the information I have available, this is what I found:

Abacon appears to have no value. The Company had its charter cancelled in 1967, and that happens when a company does not file it required regulatory paperwork (and not pay its incorporation fees) for several straight years.

Nickel Rim was cease-traded and delisted in 1991. That cease-trade order remains in effect, which suggests the company has never been reactivated.

Maybrun is a company I am asked about often, which suggests there are a lot of old certificates floating around out there. It became Consolidated Maybrun, but then dropped off the map. There is a Consolidated Maybrun which owned mineral properties in Ontario as recently as 2005 - it is very possibly the same company, although the stock is not traded anywhere currently. If you search "Consolidated Maybrun" on the web you will come up with an old address and phone number. I suggest you might have your friend give it a call and see what they can find.
