Canadian Stocks/Old Stock Certificates
Expert: Steven Taylor - 7/26/2009
QuestionRecently, my elderly mother handed me some old stock certificates of "Dominion=Kirkland Gold Mines, Limited" [including the "=" between the words Dominion and Kirkland. The Registrar and Transfer Agent is listed as Chartered Trust and Executor Company.
How can I determine whether these certificates still have value?
AnswerUnfortunately, I have no information on the company, although it might be older than most of the information I have available.
The best way to research old stock certificates is to contact the Transfer Agent, but this one is no longer in business. You can try the Province of Incorporation (listed on the certificate) and see what information they have available. Or, you could contact a broker and see if they can perform a more detailed search for you. If you have an existing business relationship with a broker, they will often perform the search at no charge.
