Question
hello.  my son inherited an old mining share certificate from his grandmother.  it is 62 1/2 shares in trappers pride mining company .  they were located in utah.  i believe the date to be july 27, 1921.  i could possibly email a copy of the certificate, if desired.  can you provide any information on how we can find out if this stock is still viable or with which company it would now be held?  thanks you so muc. ---janet

Answer
Janet, I don't think I can help you much. My area of expertise is Canadian stocks, and this one is Utah. Also, it predates the information I have available.

1921 is going back a long time. Unfortunately, very few small mining companies survived the Great Depression, and then WWII also took its toll on many of the remainder. I think your best chance of seeking an answer is to contact a broker and see if they have any information. Chances are the only value in the certificate is as art, or for sentimental value since it was owned by his grandmother, and that can be quite valuable itself.
