Question
I have certificates in Jenkins Canada Inc. for Preferred Shares (cusip 476074 20 8) and common shares (cusip 476074 30 7). They are dated in Feb. 1986 and Dec. 1988.

Can you possibly tell me if they have any value and what happened to the Company? I cannot seem to find anything from my own enquiries.

Many thanks,
Edward

Answer
Unfortunately, I don't have much information on the company at all. It did trade on the Canadian Dealer Network, but unlike the vast majority of companies that traded there, Jenkins had some valuable assets and an operating business. I believe they were an affiliate of the US valve maker Jenkins. However, that has a flip side - they seem to have kept a very low profile, and I can't find a single release or other filing for them. The US Jenkins went bankrupt in about 1990, and I see that Crane acquired certain of the assets, including some from Jenkins Canada, in 1992.

Although it doesn't look good for your common shares having much value, the preferred shares, being higher in line for assets in any bankruptcy, has a slightly better chance of having value. If there is a transfer agent listed on the certificates, I would contact them first as they will know if there was any value. If not, I suggest you should contact a broker and see if they can perform a more detailed search for you.
