Question
An elderly lady has asked me to look into some old stock certificates she came accross in her late husband's desk. The certificates were issued by "Winnipeg Concert Band Ltd" in the 50's and 60's. I told her they were probably worthless, but I would try to find out. What was this company? Are the shares worth anything? Thank you for your assistance.

Answer
I have no information on those shares. It sounds to me like something that may have been issued privately to support an actual band rather than a widely distributed public company.

If there is a transfer agent on the certificates, I would try to contact them first as they will know if the shares have value. If not, you can try the Province of Incorporation and see if they have any information. Or, you can take the certificates to a broker and see if they can uncover any additional details.
