Question
My father holds old shares in Brilund Mines Limited and Maybrun Mines Limited.  The transfer agent is Guaranty Trust Company of Canada, Toronto.  Are they worth anything?

Answer
From the information I have available:

Briland had quite a history of lawsuits. Canada charged several individuals in the 1950's of taking control of the stock without payment, and further lawsuits flew in the 1960's before the stock was delisted in the early 1970's and seems to have disappeared. Since there are numerous certificates for sale to collectors on the internet, it does not appear to have any current value, but you could consult with a broker and see if they can provide any additional information.

Maybrun is a company I have been asked about a lot. It did become Consolidated Maybrun, and although it does not currently trade anywhere, it might still be around. The most recent information I have available for them is:

Maybrun became Consolidated Maybrun Mines, and although it does not appear they trade anywhere, they might still be around. There are numerous recent references to Consolidated Maybrun, and even an address and phone number:

Consolidated Maybrun Mines Ltd
1814-150 York Street
Toronto
Ontario
M5H 3S5
Canada

(416) 363-4477

Give it a try and see what you can find.
