Question
I have been notified that some securities I own JED Oil Inc. symbol JEDOF is now worthless, but since it must have undergone many name changes since I have owned it, I have no idea what it was when I purchased it.  I would like to claim the capital loss, but I cannot track it back to what it originally was.  Can you help?

Also, prior to 2000, I had in my portfolio, Mytec Technologies Inc.(MYT), Siegesoft Internet Solutions (SIS), and Lorus Therapeutics (LOR).  Do you have any idea of what these securities are now called if they still exist.

Thank you very much for your help.  I would appreciate any you could give me.  The brokerage through which they were purchased could not give me any help.

Answer
Joseph, from the information contained in the Company's SEC filings (which is by far the best individual source of information on any company), JED (which had changed its name to Steen River Oil and Gas before they cancelled the common shares) was created by Enterra Energy Trust in 2004. The Company acquired Cariboo Resources Corp. in 2007, which is how you may have been issued shares. I would check your files for either of those methods.

Mytec became Bioscrypt, which was acquired by L-1 in 2008 on the basis of 0.0324 of a L-1 share for 1 Bioscrypt.  L-1 trades on the NYSE for about $9 a share. You can find more at their website, http://www.l1id.com/

Siegesoft did a 1 for 30 reverse split and became International Zimtu, which later reorganized into Zimtu Capital, which is still around. You need to contact their current transfer agent, Computershare (www.computershare.com).

Lorus is still around - it trades on the TSX for about 7 cents per share. Their transfer agent is also Computershare.
