Canadian Stocks/old stock certificate

Question
I recently found an old stock certificate from 1953 for a company that still exists though there name has changed several times over the years... Now UFA the company name was United Farmers of Alberta Co-operative limited    at the time. It is just one share and I expect, at the time, you had to own one to buy from them but over the years the company has grown... Can I get value out of this stock certificate (not in my name) and how do I do it... do you have any idea of the value?

Thanks

Answer
Don, since UFA is a co-op and not a publicly traded company, a share of the company probably doesn't have much value. Currently, a person can buy a share for $5 at any of their stores. The certificate really isn't tradable per se. I suggest you contact UFA directly for confirmation of any value - http://www.ufa.net/
