Question
I recently received an invitation to a shareholders' meeting for Sears Canada Inc., addressed to my deceased father, care of my more recently deceased mother. I'm assuming this means that my father still held some shares in the company, from which he had retired several years ago, at the time of his death. Who do I contact to find out the details on these shares, if any, and can I have them transferred to my mother's estate?

Answer
Ann, the proxy you received for the shareholder's meeting should have a transfer agent/Registrar listed. You need to contact them, as they maintain the official shareholder list and will know exactly how many shares are still registered in your father's name. They can also provide you with the documentation you will need to complete in order to transfer the shares into your mother's name.
