Question
My grandfather left me 2 share certificates when he passed away.
The first certificate is for 50 shares in Flag Oils Ltd. through Prudential Trust Co. in Calgary, Alberta dated Dec.15, 1960.
The second certificate is for 100 shares in Edmonton-Wainwright Oils Ltd. through the Montreal Trust Company in Edmonton, Alberta dated May 18, 1926. Please let me know how to find out the present day value, if any, of these shares and how and where to cash them in. Thank you.

Answer
From the information I have available:

Flag Oils may changed its name to Flag Resources, which then became Flag Resources (1985). Flag Resources (1985) was delisted by the TSX Venture Exchange after a "disagreement" with Flag's President over some questionable transactions. When he refused to resign, the TSX kicked them off the exchange in 2005. Flag maintained its regulatory filings into 2008, but nothing since then. Flag was still performing limited work on its properties, but I believe the Chairman died in January of this year. Since they haven't traded anywhere for years, I don't know how viable they are. The last known contact information available is:

1105 Counsel Way SW
Calgary, Alberta
T2T 1X5
(888) 531-7798

For Edmonton-Wainwright, Alberta's Corporate list says they were struck from the Corporate Register in 1958. That suggests no value, as being struck is an involuntary dissolution of the corporation.
