QuestionI have a Fidelity Mining Investment certificate for 100 shares in this company. This certificate is fully paid, dated (July 19th, 1961) and signed by the secretary treasurer - Mr. Kirby. Can you tell me if this is of any value? If this company still exists? What I should do with this document?
AnswerFrom the information I have available, Fidelity became new Fidelity which became Kenting Limited, which was acquired in 1977 by Trimac Limited for $21.25 per share cash.
If the certificates are in your name, and never redeemed, then the money would have been turned over to the government for safekeeping. 33 years ago may or may not be too long ago for the money to still be available. You need to search every lost property office in each State or Province in which you lived from the time the shares were issued until the buyout in 1977. You can search many of them online for free at www.missingmoney.com and www.naupa.org (check both - they have different participants).
