QuestionHello
I don't know if I am in the correct place but I really need some help. I am a Director of a Canadian company in dispute with my two fellow Director's. I need to find out my exact shares within my own company as they will not furnish me with this information. I have tried looking everywhere to obtain this information. Can anyone help me with a website or official body I can contact to gain the correct information?
I thank you for your help.
Emma
AnswerEmma, I am very sorry you are in such a difficult situation. Issues of this nature occur far too often.
Your potential courses of action depend on large part on what type of company it is and where it is incorporated. Each Province has different laws and regulations regarding companies incorporated there. If the company has a transfer agent/registrar for its securities, you should contact them first. They maintain the shareholder list, and should know exactly how many shares are outstanding and how many you own.
You can also file a complaint with the Provincial securities commission, but the wheels of justice turn very slowly. Therefore, I am afraid your best course of action is probably to hire an attorney versed in securities matters to press for your rights.
