Question
May brother bought stocks for my daughter when she was born - are Newalta and Carepoint Consolidated.  She is now 23 and wants to cash them in to start her adult life - but we have no idea of how to go about this!! As well as cashing them in we need to transfer them to her name.  Any help would be appreciated!

Answer
Barb, to transfer the shares to her name, you will have to contact the Transfer Agent and provide them with the required documentation. It is a fairly easy process. Once the shares are reorganized, your daughter can sell them with any broker.

For Newalta, the Transfer agent is Valiant Trust (www.valianttrust.com). For the Carepoint, did you mean Consolidated CarePoint? If so, the company is out of business. They went bankrupt in 2004 and were suspended, delisted and cease-traded in 2005. I don't believe the shares have any current value. The last transfer agent was Computershare (www.computershare.com) and you can contact them regarding value.
