Canadian Stocks/Old Canadian Stock certificates
Expert: Steven Taylor - 12/5/2011
QuestionMr Taylor,
While going through some old family documents I found the following:
5 Class A shares Dickenson Mines Limited, dated 1989, registered with National Trust Company, Toronto;
31 shares, Western Allenbee Oil and Gas company limited, June 1974, registered with Guaranty Trust Company of Canada, Montreal;
100 shares , New McManus Red Lake Gold Mines Limited, March 1979, registered with Crown Trust Company;
5 shares, Canada Paving and Supply Corporation, Sep 1929, registered with Chartered Trust and Executor Company; and
1 share, Canadian Investment Fund Limited, Feb 1979, registered with Royal Trust Company.
As I work to settle my parents estate I was wondering if these had any current value, and if so who would I contact to arrange transfer with.
Thanks
AnswerScott, from the information I have available:
Dickenson merged into Goldcorp in 1994 on the basis of 1 Goldcorp share for each Dickenson share. You will need to contact Goldcorp's transfer agent at www.canstockta.com to determine if the old certificate is valid and, if so, to get it reorganized.
Western Allenbee went through several name changes and reverse splits. Due to 1 for 5 reverse split followed by a massive 1 for 500 reverse split, the 31 shares would have been completely wiped out.
New McManus had a 1 for 4 reverse split and became Milestone Resource Corp. I believe Milestone is defunct.
I believe Canada Paving has no value, as the Company was dissolved in the 1950's and common shareholders received nothing.
I have no information on Canadian Investment Fund. I am not sure if that was a mutual fund or a stock, and I have no information on mutual funds.
