Question
My grandmother bought 500 shares with Dona Patricia Gold Mines Limited in 1945 and 33 shares with consolidated Dragon Oils Limited in 1955. Are they still around?

Answer
Sue, from the information I have available:

The Dona Patricia has no value. The company had its charter cancelled in the 1950's.

Consolidated Dragon was acquired by Plains Petroleum on the basis of 3 Plains shares for every 2 shares of Dragon. Plains was later acquired by Scurry Rainbow Oil on the basis of 1 Scurry share for every 22 Plains shares. Scurry was acquired in 1993 by Home Oil on the basis of $26.50 cash or shares in Home equal to $26.50. Home was later acquired, the acquirer was acquired, and so forth.

Considering the changes in the Consolidated Dragon, I suggest you contact a broker and see if they can document all the changes for you and see if they can find any value in the shares.
