I have a stock certificate for 100 shares of Mid Chibougamau Mines LTD. dates May, 1947.  Is this company still in existance and, if so, what was the value of it on 01/07/2011?

Mary, from the information I have available, the company went through several name changes and ended as Mid Transportation Services Ltd. All remaining shares of that company were acquired in 1986 for 65 cents per share.

Chances are, the registered owner of the shares probably received the cash back then, but was not required to surrender the certificate. If they did not receive the money, it would have been turned over to the government for safekeeping. Doubtful that money would still be available, but you can check. Search at www.missingmoney.com and www.naupa.org (check both) using the person's name as it appears on the certificate. Check every state and Province in which they lived from when they acquired the certificate up through 1986.
