QuestionMy great grandmother passed away and we found numerous share certificates. Could you give me some information on some of these companies and what the current stock value maybe. Cassiar Copperfields limited 2000 shares, Culake mines Ltd 500 shares, World Cement Industries 2000 shares, Alakon Metals Ltd 200 shares, Gold Valley Resources Ltd 40 shares, Holberg Mines 1500 shares. Any information would be helpful.
AnswerBobbie, from the information I have available:
Cassiar has no value. The Company was dissolved in the early 1970's.
I have no information on Culake at all. I suggest you contact a broker and see if they can find any additional information.
Holberg and World Cement are the same company. Holberg changed their name to World Cement, which later went through numerous name changes and at least two reverse stock splits - a 1 for 4, then a 1 for 10. It is now Century Energy, which trades on the TSX Venture Exchange for about 5 cents per share. You will need to contact the current transfer agent, Olympia Trust (www.olympiatrust.com) and let them know you have both certificates, and see if they have your great grandmother on the ownership records.
Alakon and Gold Valley are also the same company. Unfortunately, they have no value. They eventually became NCA Minerals, which was dissolved in the mid-1990's without value for shareholders.
