Question
Have an original share certificate dated Oct 14, 1987 for Gulf Canada Resources Limited.  It says transferable at the principal offices of the Canada Trust Company.  Trying to track down what happened to these shares as several company changes for estate rep but not having alot of luck.  Looked for The Canada Trust company (as tsf agent) but can't find a phone number?  Any idea where to start?

Answer
Michelle, from the information I have available, Gulf was acquired by Conoco in 2001 for $12.40 cash per share.

If it is an estate, it is possible the individual received the cash without having to turn over the certificate. Or, if not, the money would likely have been turned over the government for safekeeping. Depending on the jurisdiction, that money may still be available. The estate rep would have to search the lost property departments of every State or Province in which the individual lived from the date of the certificate until the takeover and see they can find any lost funds.
