Question
Ihave 3 royalty certificates for oil rights on my grandfather's farm in Blackfalds, Alberta, Canada.  They are dated at Calgary on 7 September, 1960.  My parents, who gave them to me, are deceased, and the only information I have is what is on the certificates.  Stapled to them is a mailing label with the following address on it:  Guaranty Trust Company of Canada with a street address in Calgary.  I would like to find how to telephone this company for more information.  Or if you know of a more direct way to find out if these certificates are worth anything, please let me know.

Answer
Carol, royalty interests are difficult to track down. In this case, since Guaranty Trust is long gone, I suggest you contact the Province of Alberta's Energy Ministry through http://www.energy.alberta.ca/ and see if it can be determined what the current status of oil and gas production on the leases are.
