Question
I have a January 1959 stock certificate from the Crown Trust Company, Toronto Canada, 75 shares of Goldcrest Mines Ltd.  The certificate was awarded to my husband at his birth and we would like to cash it in at this time.  We would appreciate your help in determining the value of the stock and directions on redemption of it for it's face value.  We have a broker account through Vanguard investments.
Thanks for your help,
Patti

Answer
Patti, from the information I have available, Goldcrest went through numerous name changes, reverse splits and acquisitions. Unfortunately, those reverse splits likely wiped out your husband's 75 shares a long time ago (a 1 for 3, then a 1 for 2, then a 1 for 15, then a 3 for 5#. Currently, I believe the surviving company is part of Penn West. You will need to contact the current agent, CIBC Mellon #www.cibcmellon.com) who will be able to assist you with the old certificate and determine if there is any current value.
