My wifes late husband left her a certificate indicating that he had 1000 shares in Cable Copper Mines Limited, we want to know if this company still exists and how we can sell the shares. The shares were held by Universe Securities Limited.

Ron, from the information I have available, I believe Cable Copper became Iceberg Media sometime in the 90's. Iceberg was later acquired by Standard Broadcasting for 5 cents per share in 2002.

Her late husband may have received a check for his shares at the time of the acquisition. Or, it was issued to Universe as the custodian, and may or may not have been sent to him. If not, I suggest you search the missing property offices of every State or Province in which he lived from the time he acquired the shares until the takeover. You can search many of them online for free at www.missingmoney.com and www.naupa.org.
