Canadian Stocks/canadian stocks

QuestionHello Steve:
After my father's death, we found stocks issued by several Canadian companies, one of which you had mentioned previously in response to someone else's enquiry. The other stocks were issued by Forsys Corporation in 1996 and 1997, Neotel Inc in 1995, GolfNorth Properties Inc in 1999, and Champion Gold Resources Inc in 1997 and 1998.
What, if anything, is their value?
AnswerPete, from the information I have available:
Forsys did a 1 for 9 reverse split and at least 2 name changes. It is currently Forsys Metals, which trades for about 84 cents per share on the TSX.
Neotel had a 1 for 3 reverse split and changed its name at least twice. It is currently Tenth Power Tech, which trades for about 2 cents per share on the TSX Venture.
GolfNorth went private in 2002. Shareholders received 30 cents per share.
Champion changed names several times, and is currently Champion Minerals, which trades for about $1.73 a share on the TSX.
For the 3 active companies, you will need to contact the current transfer agent to confirm the certificates are valid and to get them reorganized into shares of the new companies. They all have the same agent - Equity (www.equityfinancialtrust.com/). For the GolfNorth, your father should have received a check at the time of the takeover. The agent at that time for GoldNorth was also Equity.
