Question
sir though this question does not relate to canadian stock exchange in particular, but i thought you might know the answer to this:
what does non-market capitalisation method of calculating share price index consist of?does it include price and equal weighted method?
thanks

Answer
Anabell, that is a good question. There are various non-market capitalization methods for indices. Most are price weighted, but there are some other, more obscure methods as well. Those have become more common recently as companies have added more specific ETF products to the market.

Most of the official websites, as well as the prospectuses of funds that purchase and/or track such indices, have specific details of their calculation methodologies on their websites. If you have a particular non-market capitalization index in mind, I suggest you visit the website and get the specific methodology from the source.
