Question
My wife recently found a certificate for a few shares from 1968. She had entirely forgotten about it and never received any communications from the company.

Other than historic/collector value, are the shares worth anything?

Many thanks!

Answer
From the information I have available, the company became Carling O'Keefe Limited, which was acquired in the mid 1980's for $18 a share cash. Your wife should have received a check at that time. If not, the money should have been turned over to the government for safekeeping. It may still be available. You need to search the missing property offices of every State or Province in which your wife lived from acquiring the shares in 1968 until the takeover in 1987. You can search many of them online for free at www.missingmoney.com and www.naupa.org.
