Canadian Stocks/searching for deceased stocks

Question
How can you find if a deceased person had stocks without the paperwork? Is there a name search database?

Answer
April, there is no search name database for old stocks. But, if a financial institution or stock transfer agent loses contact with a holder, they are required by law to turn over any unclaimed assets to the Government for safekeeping. Many of these States and Provinces have put the names of unclaimed asset holders on-line where you can search for free.

You can search many of them online for free at www.missingmoney.com and www.naupa.org. Check every state or province in which the deceased lived during their lifetime. This is a very good thing to do even if they did not have stocks without the paperwork as many other lost assets may be found in these databases.
