Question
Hi Steven - I have recently found 2 United Grain Growers Class B Shares and 2 United Grain Growers Class A Shares, both issued in 1946 to my mother, Mrs Nancy T Roberts, Tredunnock, Monmouth, England. Could you please tell me if they are still valid?
Class B Share Cert No: B29060
Class A Share Cert No: A24887

Thanks in anticipation
Sue Treverton-Harris nee Roberts

Answer
Sue, those certificates will no longer be valid. United Grain Growers merged with Agricore, then Agricore was later acquired by Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and renamed Viterra. Viterra was acquired in 2012 by Glencore for $16.25 cash per share. But, your mothers' shares were gone by that point. In 2004, Agricore did a 1 for 100 reverse split followed by a 100 for 1 forward split designed to wipe out all the small shareholders. Your Mother's shares would have been cancelled at that time and a small cash payment of $9.63 per share made to the affected holders.
