About John Vercelletto
Expertise
I can answer most questions about making Gel candles. Tips, tricks, do`s and don`ts, types of gel, creativity, where to buy supplies, etc... I can not answer questions on wax candles or soap. Though we sold wax candles and I know a little about them, I do not know enough to answer any advanced wax candle questions.

Experience
I owned a gel candle company which made gel candles and sold them at our own gel candle boutique on Long Island.

Candle & Soap Making - Scent

Expert: John Vercelletto - 11/9/2005

Question
Is there a way to add scent to gel candles that have already been poured?  Mine are not strong enough.  I don't think I used enough scent during my first batch.

Answer
Hi Michelle,

The answer is basically no.  You can try to reheat the gel to a liquid state using a heat gun or other method, but it really depends on the "Scene" and the glass.

More important is the fact that you don't want to create pockets of scent which would probably happen if you attempted the above.  That would be dangerous and the scent may "flame up" on the person when using the candle.  I wouldn't try it.

The only way it would work is if your design allowed you to soften (perhaps at low temps in an oven) the gel, scoop most of it out, mix the scent and repour.

Hope that helps,

John
