Question
I am studding canine behavior and need to knew what to do about dogs who guard their food bowls and chase their owners out of the kitchen?

Answer
Hi Rachel

When solving behaviour problems you need to understand why it is happening, not simply treat the symptoms.  firstly understand the breed.  Look at the dog's history (has he been straying and hungry in the past?), look at his relationship with his owner. Also, check the physical capability of the dog - a Rottie doing this should be treated differently to a yorkie for example.

Dogs are social animals and would feed in groups so it is sensible to guard their food from others.  Explore wolf feeding behavior for some ideas

Hope this helps - I'm not doing the work for you!
