Why is it important for a pet to have a pet door?

Dear Brian,
Thanks for the interesting question. Pet doors are used to give pets access to the outdoors, when people are gone or when people would rather not open the human door to let them out and in.

Some people use them because they believe their pets will go outside to eliminate. But even if there is a pet door, the pet might still use the house as a bathroom.
