Canine Behavior/Chihuahua with rage syndrome

Question
We have a reoccurring problem with our 5 month old chihuahua. For no apparent reason she will go from totally calm, to completing freaking out and running around the house barking and yelping with her eyes very dilated out for about an hour. Once that is through she appears completely disoriented for 6-8 hours, sleeping and appearing to have no energy to even walk at times. With the little bit of internet research I did, I can only come up with rage syndrome. Any ideas?

Answer
Dear Craig,
Thanks for the question. My first inclination is to say it's a medical problem. This is one of those cases where I can't really offer any comments because I haven't seen the dog. It would be very very unusual if it is rage syndrome.

Have her checked out by your vet. If it continues and your vet gives her a clean bill of health, contact an animal  behavior counselor.

Good Luck!
