Question
My fully house trained - 4 year old jack russel has started
defecating indoors every night.
He sleeps in the kitchen at night and up until about 6 months ago never messed at all. How can I alter this pattern? We have tried feeding at different times - we take him out before we retire for the night - he gets plenty of attention - we have him checked by a vet.....
Please help

Answer
Dear val,
If the dog is not urinating inside, then I'm not sure it's a behavioral problem. Many people only feed their dogs once per day and that is sufficient for adult dogs. Try feeding the bulk of his meals in the morning.

Have you checked with all fami8ly members about feeding treats? Maybe he's getting more food than you know.

Unless your vet overlooked a medical issue, you should be able to address this by changing the diet content and time of consumption.

Good Luck!

I will answer all questions about canine behavior and training, training methods and equipment. Be ready to provide dog's name, age, sex, breed and how long you have owned the dog. In addition, it'd be great for me to know how long the problem has been occurring, what you have tried to solve the problem(s) and what were the results.

The more information you provide me - the better equipped I will be to offer sound, helpful advice! Thank you.
