Question
QUESTION: How do I turn turn the alarm off (deactivate) on a 2005 Malibu?

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY or, ANTI-THEFT" light
in the dash flashing? (ENGINE DISABLING)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: The alarm appears to be aftermarket as described by your follow-up.  When the alarm is activated the parking lights flash, the horn honks and a padlock light flashes in the panel.  Inserting key in ignition silences alarm and will allow engine to start.

Answer
Nope, have that backwards. From what you described,
it's the car's PASSLOCK 2 system you are dealing with.

Does the engine crank over and run, or just starts and dies?
If this is your issue, GM will need to reset it.
The Bypass for this is a kit, or module that would
be installed to keep PASSLOCK and the fuel
rail cut off circuit from engaging.

Is this what you are experiencing?

A.
