Car Alarms - keyless entry remote no longer works

Expert: ALARMTEK - 11/9/2009

Question
I have a 2001 jeep cherokee with an aftermarket keeyless entry which is also anti theft in that it is connected to the ignition, if the keyless entry doesn't work then the ignition will not work either.  The remote does not work anymore, button is broken.  I do not know the make of the keyless entry as I am 2nd owner of vehicle. Is there anyway to bypass the keyless entry as I need to start my car, or uninstall this keyless entry or would buying a universal remote be a better option with buying two as one for a spare?  Thanks!

Answer
No universal is going to be available.
(in a perfect world maybe!) so that's out. :>(
You'd now need to use the remote to ID itself
at a place online that sells replacements, or
scrap it all together and get a new set up.

Until then try valet override:

To try to disarm it,
look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE
( if this is a remote starter, the antenna on the
front window glass may also have the over ride
button inset into it.)

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry installed. (In your case no keyless
until remotes are avial) Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

The next step is if wanting to remove/replace it,
that you contact a local technician to
locate it, and affect neccesary service
for you.

That should solve the troubles.

Let me know what you discover.
