Question I have a Crimestopper RS-4. The remote start works well in that it turns on the vehicle, but the problem is turning it OFF. Once on, I can put the key in, turn it to ON, then to OFF and the car will stay running. It doesnt register the key at all. Any ideas???? Thanks in advance.
Answer Hmmm, not certain of the features, but that sounds
like the "smart stop" system where you can leave the
engine running when you stop at a store, whatever
(rain/snow/cold weather etc...). It's a convenience
feature.
As far as turning off the starter,
the standards are as follows...
The button on the remote that starts it,
should also, when pressed for 2-4 seconds,
stop it as well.
So should the brake. When the starter is running,
if you tap the brake, it should disengage the
starter.
Lastly, the remote starter will time out in
a pre set cycle.
If all of this sounds familiar, and applies to your
system, it's installed properly and you will need
to get the manual and look up the features and
read what to expect from the sequence of the
remote start cycle.
If not, inspect the ignition wires at the key switch
harness. You may need more the 1 if only 1 is used.
That would depend on the car we are talking about.
