Question
My 2003 Highlander's alarm hAs gone off during the night twice in the last
month.  I Click the remote to unlock the doors and the back door does not
unlock until I Click the alarm again.  My Battery has been dead twice after
a day trip for no apparent reason.  Can you help?

Answer
Sounds more like the alarm is reacting to a low
battery and is likey symptomatic of this and not
malfunchioning.

My bet is either a bad battery (stop recharging
the old one and get another to test this)
or the charging system may have a fault.
In any case, have a mechanic look that over.

Good luck.
