Expert: ALARMTEK - 12/14/2010

QUESTION: I have a RAV4 04 - with alarm installed.

About a week ago, I went to open the door with my key (turning twice clockwise) and the alasrm went off, flashing lights and horn.

I eventually got the alarm in valet mode (disabled - with solid red light).

But my doors will only open manually now - I can't open/lock all doors with my key on the driver side door like I was able to before this problem.

The switch on the driver side door allows me to close all doors but it does not work opening all doors.

Can you help please!!

ANSWER: Needs to replace a part here.

You need to have the repair done to the door lock switch
or the alarm will always act this way.

Start with getting the switch (master) on the drivers
door replaced. This should then be able to control
the rest as it did prior to this issue.

Then if that does not correct the problem,
go into the doors to see physically what's
mechanically causing the issue.

Do that and let me know how it worked out.

QUESTION: I don't think it is the driver side switch issue since the switch on the passenger side door has the same issue - the switch allows me to close all doors but it does not work opening all doors.

Could it be a problem with the actuator?

Yes it could be the actuator, but the master switch
is the key here. It controls the passenger switch so that
would be expected. The opening/unlocking part of the switch may have burnt. No way for me to evaluate it,
but likely to be a damaged part.
