Car Alarms/Pursuit alarm blaring.........

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1991 Ford Lariat that has a Pursuit alarm system. The truck's battery was dead and after trying to "jump start" the battery, the siren from the alarm system blares. I do not have a remote, but, do recall a one button remote at one time. The FIC# H5LAL9144 is on the black box located next to the fuse box. There is a small toggle switch located on the panel in the same area. I also, noticed a flashing red "button-type" light on righthand side near the ashtray. First, how do I disable the alarm in order to start my truck. Second, what do I need to order a key FOB for the car alarm? Thank you so much for your advice...........Mario

ANSWER: Ok, You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, plug in that toggle switch & then,

KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION,
KEY OFF, START THE CAR.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode but in your case, I'd leave it this
way until you can have a service technician
get under there and remove/replace & repair.
DO NOT leave this system in there or your
headache will get worse.

If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried. This is override/reset.

Then if wanting to remove it,
unplug the brain box and get
a new alarm with fresh remotes.

It'll be allot cheaper then trying to
locate and pay for a pair of remotes that
can operate the 20 year old system
you have there.

Let me know what you discover
& if you want to upgrade to a
better, more reliable system.

QUESTION: Thanks again for the graeat advice; I took your advice, but, y battery was dead, dead........anyways, I unplugged the large receptacle of wires from the "brain" of the Pursuit car alarm. Then, I replaced the battery and the truck started w/o any complications. Do you think I'm asking for trouble by leaving it in this condition?
Mario

Answer
Great. Glad it helped.
Just make sure you bundle the wires up and wire
tie off. Then extract the brain and get a new
system. You should be able to use the old wiring
points for the new system to make the job easier.

Thanks for the kind words.
