Car Alarms/jetta 2003 security system..won't start

Question
I accidently locked the doors with the clicker before my wife got out. When she opened her door tha alarm went off. We got the alarm shut off and didn't think anymore about it until the next day when I tried to start the car. The engine turns over like it wants to start then dies off. Light of hsape of car with key came on and also the letters EPC. Can't afford to tow this car to dealer etc.Help!!!!
