QUESTION: i have a 2002 jeep liberty sport 2.4  baught it 6mos ago 1month after i got it clutch went out ran alarm never worked pulled it in garaged disconnected battery put new clutch in hoocked up battery it hasent ran since took it to dealer they said computer coil wires put new in still same thang no spark had a friend come over and look at it found alarm he said maybe when unhocked battery  it did something to alarm any suggestions

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Ok let's clear up the terminology glitch here.

1. FACTORY/OEM alarm = Part of the original schematics
and plans from the manufacturer.
(horn honk, head lights flash, Starter may crank and
die, no spark)

2. DEALER INSTALLED alarm = Just that. Once the vehicle
is brought to a dealer, the dealer sub contracts the after market
security out.
(horn might honk, siren and parking lights flash, starter kill relay,
no start, no crank, just dead.)

3. AFTER MARKET alarm: Same as #2 but Customer IS AWARE that
the system was put in at the dealership, but may not
be informed of the brand name, or even what it's
total capabilities are.
(siren & parking lights flash, starter kill)

Which one applies to yours?

QUESTION: i believe factory

Answer
Hmmmm, Likely to be factory if it's the car's
own horn honking.

However, if it's a siren and flashing lights,
it's after market.

Ok, here's what I know...

Normally, putting the key in the drivers side door lock,
turning to the left, then to the right all the way
will unlock and disarm/reset the "OEM factory"
alarm system.

If it's after market, try the following:

PUT IGNITION KEY IN IGNITION,
KEY ON TO JUST BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.
PRESS IN AND HOLD VALET SWITCH FOUND UNDER THE DASH
AREA UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONCE FROM THE ALARM.

KEY OFF.

This should toggle the alarm in and out of
valet/override.

If toggle type switch.
KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH, KEY OFF,
START THE CAR.
